We are going to Bonaire on October 2nd to the 9th 2010 Merial P. Currer President, Currer Enterprises INC
Merial has been a military dependent all of her life and is very familiar with the lifestyle challenges. She has prided herself on military family support and has been instrumental in teaching and educating military spouses. Although new to the diving life, she is vastly experienced in managing efficient operations from retail clothing operations to managing multiple women’s fitness centers. No challenge is too big!
Jeffrey S. Currer
Vice President, Currer Enterprises INC
Jeff learned to dive in 1982 on the Marine Base at Kanehoe HI as a Naval Academy Midshipman. He spent the next 20 years underwater…in a nuclear submarine courtesy of the U.S. Navy. In 2004 his son’s became interested in diving and Jeff rediscovered his love of the sport. After a series of dives and certification with his sons, Jeff decided that diving and training divers was something he really wanted to do. In 2008 he decided to go pro. It has been a wonderful ride ever since. Jeff certified as an instructor in June 2009. Believing that everyone should see and enjoy the other two thirds of the world that lies underwater, he tries to show everyone how easy and relaxing diving can be. His dream dive is in the Galapagos Islands, and he would love for you to come along.
Steve Ford M-199212
Patriot Scuba Director of Training
As a PADI Master Instructor, Steve teaches, coordinates, and oversees each of our training programs, from Snorkeling to Discover Scuba, Open Water all the way through our Instructor Training Courses. Steve took his first breath underwater in 1971 and has been hooked ever since. He has made over 2500 dives in many of the best dive sites in the world. Steve believes that buoyancy control is the key to safe, relaxed diving. He works with all divers from the very beginning to help them find weightlessness and control in the water. Join him for an hour in the water and see the difference in your dive experience. In addition to PADI instruction, Steve is certified by the Diver's Alert Network (DAN) as a Diving Emergency Specialist Instructor Trainer and can teach provider and instructor courses for 11 of 12 courses that DAN provides. Let’s Go Diving!
Miko Chavchavadze
PADI Instructor
Miko learned to dive at ten in Bermuda in 1976 and has been hooked ever since. In 2004 he decided to go pro and become an instructor and has never looked back. Miko has a great deal of experience teaching scuba both locally and internationally and though he has thousands of hours diving, he has yet to be bored underwater. Specializing in working with kids, Miko ran the Fairfax County scuba camps in 2007 and 2008 with great success. He tries to combine a laid back demeanor with an adherence to the highest training standards, believing that thoroughly trained divers do not also need to be stressed out divers. Currently he is trying to figure out a way to get back to his all-time favorite dive destination, Truk Lagoon in Micronesia, and he would love for you to come along.
Dave Wilemon
Specialty Instructor
Dave started diving in the in the summer of 2008 and quickly found that it was his new passion. Diving was a great relief from the day to day stresses of his high tempo job. Dave worked his way from open water to rescue diver with about seven specialties in between expeditiously. Dave has spent the majority of his adult life commanding and instructing Marines, and therefore realized how much he missed being an instructor to people willing to learn. This led him to become a Dive Master, and most recently, an Open Water Scuba Instructor. Dave enjoys all types of diving and will dive anytime anywhere. His dream dive is the Great Barrier Reef, Australia.
Judy Ford
InstructorJudy is an avid – some might say “rabid” – diver, completing over 100 dives in her first year of certification. The progression from recreational diver to PADI Instructor provided the perfect outlet for Judy to share her love of the water and all it's wonder with the rest of the world. As she herself began diving later in life, Judy believes you're never too old (or too young!) and it's never too late (or too early!) to enjoy snorkeling and scuba. There's something for everyone from age 5 to 105! So grab your bathing suit and towel, and bring your sense of adventure…the water is great…come on in!
Dan Schoettinger
PADI Divemaster
Dan started diving in 2007 and became a divemaster a year later. He leads PADI Discover Scuba experiences and assists Patriot's instructors during classes. Some of Dan's favorite dives have included spying a beautiful manta ray off of Molokini Crater near Maui, exploring the vast southeast wall of Grand Cayman, and photographing sand tiger sharks patrolling the many wrecks near Cape Lookout, North Carolina.
Jessica Dalton
Dive MasterMaster Scuba Diver
Jessica grew up in Aiea and Makiki, Hawaii, San Diego and Santa Cruz, California, and was first certified to dive in 1988. After participating and assisting with adolescent bottle-nosed dolphin research studies at Kewalo Basin Marine Mammal Laboratory in Honolulu, through the University of Hawaii, and at Sea Life Park in Waimanalo, she committed herself to finding a way to spend as much time with marine life as possible. After a hiatus from the Pacific while earning her BA in Albuquerque, NM, and working on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, she returned to the ocean in 2007 to complete her PADI professional certification in the Atlantic. In July 2009, Jessica became the first Divemaster certified by Patriot Scuba. While the Pacific Coast sea kelp forests will always be her favorite place to dive, Jessica is a our resident naturalist and looks forward to diving with the Great White sharks off Guadalupe Island, the Hammerheads at Cocos Island, and being blessed with the luck of someday swimming beside a whale shark. From reef to deep…LET’S GO DIVING!
John Goldberg
Dive MasterJohn took his first breaths underwater at the age of 8 at a South Jersey swim club breathing off an antique two hose Aqualung regulator. After spending the next 23 years relying on resort courses and other supervised dives, John enrolled in a PADI Open Water course in the Fall of 1997 and completed his check out dives in Turks and Caicos in the Spring of 1998. While on a weekend trip with a friend last April to Lake Rawlings, John met Steve and Judy Ford and immediately realized an opportunity to take his interest in diving to the next level. John began working with Steve and Judy over the summer to become Patriot SCUBA's first certified Rescue Diver, Master SCUBA Diver, and ultimately this past November, Patriot's first fully in-house trained Divemaster. John currently has his sites set on completing the PADI Instructor Development Course this summer, and training as a Tec Instructor by the summer of 2011. Ultimately though, John hopes to complete 20 years working for Congress then retire to the Caribbean to staff a future Patriot SCUBA satellite shop...
